Time is running: If you can’t file your return, request an extension

The April 18, 2023, filing deadline for federal tax returns for 2022 is upon us. If you are unable to file by this deadline, you should request an extension now. However, this does not mean your obligation to pay if you owe is extended. You should pay what is owed to the IRS by the filing deadline, so you are not faced with penalties and interest. Those who request and are granted an extension to file will have until October 16, 2023, to do so.
